Prussia 1792-B thaler Dav-2599
This specimen was lot 3903 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €360 (about US$501 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich Wilhelm II. 1786-1797. Reichstaler preuß. 1792, B, Breslau. Mit WILHLEM in der Vorderseitenumschrift. RR Sehr schön. Exemplar der Auktion Galerie des Monnaies 25, Düsseldorf 1981, Nr. 384. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William II, 1786-97, thaler of 1792, Breslau mint, with "WILHLEM" in the obverse legend. Very rare, very fine.)"
This type was struck at Berlin, Breslau (shown here) and Königsberg 1791-97. These coins saw hard use and are frequently found heavily worn. As they were only 0.750 fine, they were spent and the issues of other principalities hoarded.
Recorded mintage: 298,125. The variety with the error legend is scarce.
Specification: 22.27 g, 0.750 fine silver, this specimen 22,02 g.
