Künker sale 353, lot 3908

This specimen was lot 3908 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €850 (about US$1,183 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich Wilhelm II. 1786-1797. Reichstaler preuß. 1791, E, Königsberg. Seltener Jahrgang. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Pilartz 6, Köln 1964, Nr. 1354. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William II, 1786-97, thaler of 1791, Königsberg mint. Very scarce date, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This type was struck at Berlin, Breslau and Königsberg (shown here) 1791-97. These coins saw hard use and are frequently found heavily worn. As they were only 0.750 fine, they were spent and the issues of other principalities hoarded.

Recorded mintage: 224,297.

Specification: 22.27 g, 0.750 fine silver, this specimen 22.10 g.

Catalog reference: KM 360.3, Dav-2599, J. 25; Olding 10.
