This specimen was lot 34598 in Heritage sale 3038 (Dallas, January 2015), where it sold for $587.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "East Prussia. Elizabeth of Russia 1/6 Taler 1761 AU58 NGC. Russia controlled the area of East Prussia from 1756-1762. Therefore, Elizabeth's portrait is found on the coin. An important coin collected by three nations." Frederick the Great was facing certain defeat at the hands of the Austrians and Russians during the Seven Years War when Tsarina Elizabeth's sudden death in 1761 released him from the trap. This type is accompanied by a third thaler (KM E290).
