This specimen was lot 3844 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €340 (about US$473 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Ostpreußen unter russischer Besatzung. 3-Gröscher 1761, ohne Münzzeichen, Moskau. Mit ELISAB : I : D : G : IMP : am Anfang der Vorderseitenumschrift und ARGNTEA : auf der Rückseite. Sehr schön. Exemplar der Auktion Frankfurter Münzhandlung 136, Frankfurt/Main 1991, Nr. 841. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, East Prussia under Russian occupation, three groscher of 1761, without mintmark, Moscow mint, with "ELISAB : I : D : G : IMP" at the beginning of the obverse legend and "ARGNTEA" on the reverse. Very fine.)"

The Russian army occupied East Prussia 1759-62 during the Seven Years' War. During that period, the Königsberg mint was used to strike a strange hybrid of German denominations with the bust of empress Elizabeth. Schilling (KM 286), groschen (KM 287), two groscher (KM 288), three groscher (shown here), six groscher (KM B290) and eighteen groscher (KM C290) were struck. A variety exists for the three groscher (KM 288.1) without the word "ARGENTEA" inserted into the reverse legend. The six groscher is the most common.

Recorded mintage: 1,050,000 including KM 288.1 (without ARGENTEA).

Specification: 1.56 g, billon, 18 mm diameter, this specimen is 1,35 g.

Catalog reference: KM A290, Olding 457 d; Kluge K 29.3.
