Künker sale 353, lot 3195

This specimen was lot 3195 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €40 (about US$56 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich (III.) I. 1701-1713. 6 Pfennig 1708, CS, Berlin. Mit Monogramm F · R auf der Brust und die Münzmeistersignatur über den Krallen. Münzmeister Christoph Stricker. Sehr schön. Erworben im 23.11.2005 von Manfred Olding, Osnabrück. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick I, 1701-13, six pfennig of 1708, Berlin mint, with monogram "FR" on the breast. very fine.)"

This type was struck at Berlin 1703-10. This coin was worth 1/72 of a gulden or 1/108 of a thaler. The reverse legend, "*6*/PF:BRAN:/DENB·LAND/MUNTZ·", means "6 pennies in Brandenburg land money." Land money was intended for local use and not for foreign trade and usually was debased.

Recorded mintage: 2,009,328 for 1707-10 including KM 39 (struck at Magdeburg).

Specification: 1.42 g, 0.125 fine silver, 18-19 mm diameter, this specimen 1,36 g.
