This specimen was lot 10627 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $441. The catalog description[1] noted, "PORTUGAL. 100 Reis, 1898. NGC MS-67. Finest certified by NGC or PCGS. Highly lustrous and very attractive with beautiful multicolor toning. From the Demarete Collection." This is an unusually nice specimen of an otherwise common coin struck 1890-98.
Recorded mintage: 655,000.
