This specimen was lot 43289 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $432. The catalog description[1] noted, "PORTUGAL. 2000 Reis, 1877. Lisbon Mint. Luiz I. PCGS MS-62. Finest certified example by PCGS." This type was struck in Lisbon 1868-81 and 1888 and is one of the more common of Portuguese gold coins. If the reported mintage is correct, this should be a rare date but it obtains little premium. Gold 5000 and 10,000 réis bearing this portrait also exist along with a series of silver issues.
Recorded mintage: 2,250.
Specification: 3.54 g, 0.917 fine gold.
