This specimen was lot 30929 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $4,993.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "Miguel I gold Peca 1831, AU58 NGC. Very bold details with subtle toning and nearly full mint luster are seen on this example. A decidedly scarce and popular type for this short reign." This type was struck 1830-31 only by the usurper Michael I. Originally valued at 6400 réis, the peça was valued upwards to 7500 réis in 1826. The last peça was struck in 1835 during the reign of Maria II; decimal coinage was introduced in 1837.
