This specimen was lot 22895 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Anaheim, CA, August 2016), where it sold for $352.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "PORTUGAL. 200 Reis, 1830. NGC MS-61. Quite elusive in UNCIRCULATED and highly desirable as such. Moderately dark toning with a deep amalgam of color on the surfaces." This type was struck 1829-30 only and is the last of the denomination prior to the decimal reform of 1836. Far more extensive in types and availability is its larger sister, the 400 réis or pinto. King Michael was a usurper who was finally driven out in 1834 in favor of his niece, queen Maria II.
