UBS sale 84, lot 1374

This specimen is lot 1374 in UBS sale 84 (Basel, January 2010). The catalog description[1] noted,

"PORTUGAL (Münzstätte Lissabon) Maria I. 1786-1799. Peça 1793. Brustbild mit Kopfputz nach rechts. Rv. Wappen auf gekrönter Wappenkartusche. Fast vorzüglich." (Portugal, Lisbon mint, Maria I, 1786-99, gold "joe" of 1793. Obv: bust with headdress of queen to right, date below. Rev: Baroque arms. Good extremely fine).

This type was struck 1789-99 but is seldom seen compared to similar coins that were struck in Brazil.

Recorded mintage: 5,138.

Specification: 14.34 g, 0.917 fine gold, .423 troy oz AGW, 32 mm diameter; this specimen: 14.34 grams.
