Sincona sale 54, lot 952

This specimen was lot 952 in Sincona sale 54 (Zürich, May 2019), where it sold for 750 CHF (about US$893 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"PORTUGAL | Königreich, Maria I. 1786-1799. Peca 1796, Lissabon. Vorzüglich. Leicht justiert. (kingdom of Portugal, Maria I, 1786-99, peça of 1796. Extremely fine, Minor adjustment marks.)"

This type was struck 1789-93 and 1796-99 but is seldom seen compared to similar peças from Brazil.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 14.34 g, 0.917 fine gold, .423 troy oz AGW, 32 mm diameter, this specimen 14.39 g.
