Sincona sale 90, lot 1535

This specimen was lot 1535 in Sincona sale 90 (Zürich, May 2024), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"PORTUGAL Königreich, Jose I. 1750-1777. 1/2 Escudo 1751, Lissabon. Sehr schön. Leicht berieben. (kingdom of Portugal, Joseph I, 1750-77, half escudo of 1751, Lisbon mint. Very fine, Slightly polished.)"

This type was struck only in 1751 and 1768. The king's name was spelled "IOSEPHUS", as here, or "JOSEPHUS".

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.79 g, 0.917 fine gold, this specimen 1.78 g.
