This specimen was lot 30463 in Heritage sale 3037 (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $1,175. The catalog description[1] noted, "João III gold Cruzado ND (1521-57) AU50 NGC, Lisbon mint. PORTV / VINC. Impressive in all respects, this handsome type features a round flan, bold details, and attractive, antique-golden patina with darker tone that clings to the devices. A solid, visually appealing specimen with light ghosting within the reverse legends, seldom encountered in this select quality and well-deserving of a strong bid." The second specimen was lot 32157 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[2] noted, "Portugal: João III gold Cruzado ND (1521-1557) AU53 NGC, Lisbon mint. A charming early Portuguese gold piece with sharp detail and an inviting display of toning accents drawing the viewer's attention to the devices. What at first may seem like a crease in the flan is actually the reverse cross leaving a slight impression on the obverse. An engaging example demanding close collector attention." This undated cruzado was minted during the reign of João III at Lisbon and Porto.
