Pomerania 1674 witten rev H3029-31886.jpg

This specimen was lot 31886 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $822.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Pomerania. Karl XI 1/192 Taler 1674, XF45 NGC. A choice example with exceptionally sharp design features. Also known as a Witten." This type was struck by the Swedish 1673-74 for their territories in Pomerania, on the south shore of the Baltic Sea. Another obscure but likely very rare minor from the vast catalog of the German States. Prussia nibbled away at the Swedish holdings until seizing the remainder in 1815.

Recorded mintage: unknown but rare.

Specification: silver or billon.

Catalog reference: KM 258.
