Pomerania 1650 witten
This specimen was lot 11040 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Copenhagen, June 2026), where it sold for €129 (about US$149). The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN. Pomerania. Witten, 1650. Stettin Mint. Kristina. NGC Fine-15. Rare type. From the L.E. Bruun Collection." This obscure type was struck 1650, 1651 and 1654. One thaler was 192 witten. On the lapse of the native dynasty in 1637, the duchy was contested between Sweden and Brandenburg until they agreed to partition it by the Peace of Westphalia in 1648. As Sweden gradually weakened, Brandenburg (later Prussia) gradually nibbled away at the Swedish portion until the remainder was seized in 1815.
