The first specimen was lot 174 in Aureo & Calicó sale 238 (Barcelona, November 2011), where it sold for 300 euro (about US$476 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"1803. Lima. IJ. 8 reales. Acuñación floja. Parte de brillo original. Rara. MBC+. (eight reales of 1803, weak strike, some luster, rare, choice very fine.)"

This type was struck 1791-1808 for Charles IV and is probably the most common colonial coin of Peru. Assayer IJ is recorded for 1787-1803.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.896 fine silver, .780 troy oz ASW.
