Steve Album sale 54, lot 3307

This specimen was lot 3307 in Steve Album Auction 54 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2026), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU: Carlos IV, 1788-1808, AR 1/4 real, Lima, 1803-L, toned, PCGS graded AU58." Two types of cuartillas were struck at the beginning of the series: KM 99 (portrait type) struck 1792-96 and KM 102.1 (lions/castles without value) struck 1794-96. Both are scarce compared to the regular lions and castles type struck 1796-1821, of which an example is shown here.

Recorded mintage: unknown but common.

Specification: 0.84 g, 0.896 fine silver.
