Aureo sale 238, lot 363

This specimen was lot 363 in Aureo & Calicó sale 238 (Barcelona, November 2011), where it sold for 110 euro (about US$174 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"1803. México. TH. 8 reales. Rayitas. MBC+. (eight reales of 1803, Mexico City mint. Field marks, choice very fine.)"

Assayer FT is recorded for 1801-03 while assayer TH appears in 1803-10. This type is perhaps the most common coin of colonial Mexico and thousands survive today in all grades.

Specification: 27.07 grams, 0.896 fine silver, .780 troy oz ASW.
