This specimen was lot 22394 in Heritage sale 3021 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $2,232.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Carlos III gold 8 Escudos 1784-MI, AU55 NGC, considerable mint luster on both sides, one lamination on the reverse below the S for Scudos, quite typical for Lima gold of this era. Well superior to most of this type seen in the market." Later issues of this type (1785-89) were struck in gold lowered to 0.875 fine.
