Passau 1711 4 kreuzer
This specimen was lot 652 in Künker Auction 424 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €420 (about US$595 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHE MÜNZEN UND MEDAILLEN · PASSAU, BISTUM Johann Philipp von Lamberg, 1689-1712. 4 Kreuzer (Batzen) 1711, Augsburg. Münzmeister Christian Hohleisen. Stempelschneider Philipp Heinrich Müller. Von großer Seltenheit. Fast sehr schön. (Germany, bishopric of Passau, John Philip of Lamberg, 1689-1712, four kreuzer or batzen of 1711, Augsburg mint. Extremely rare, about very fine.)"
This was struck in Augsburg for John Philip (1651-1712), who was promoted to cardinal in 1700 and finished the St. Stephens cathedral in the town. At this time, one thaler was ninety kreuzer or 22½ batzen. The bishopric of Passau was annexed to Bavaria in 1803 and 1805.
