Papal States (1587-89) testone Ber-1320
This specimen was lot 1339 in Künker sale 403 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €1,500 (about US$1,968 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"PAPST SIXTUS V., 1585-1590. Die Münzstätte Rom. Testone o. J. (1587-1589), Rom. Ohne Münzzeichen. Fast vorzüglich. Exemplar der Spezialsammlung Münzen und Medaillen der Päpste, Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 233, Osnabrück 2013, Nr. 1287. (Papal States, Sixtus V, 1585-90, undated testone, circa 1587-89, Rome mint, without mintmark. About extremely fine.)"
The reverse depicts Justice standing, with sword and scales, but we haven't been able to interpret the reverse legend, PVBLICE QVIETIS PARENS.
