This specimen was lot 33831 in Heritage sale 3114 (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $4,560. The lot description[1] noted, "Netherlands: Overyssel. Provincial gold Off-Metal Specimen Stuiver 1738 UNC Details (Tooled) PCGS, A diminutive Off-Metal strike seldom seen at public auction and never before by this firm. The tooling in the upper regions of the obverse facet are unfortunate but are not overly distracting in hand, taking on the character of surrounding die polish lines that striate the flan. From the Coenen Collection." The stuiver struck for circulation (KM 87) was 0.81 g, 0.583 fine silver. It was made 1738-39 and 1765-69. The denomination was struck in gold for presentation 1738-39 and, being carefully saved, usually comes nice. These presentation pieces must have been quite popular as all the provinces made them, using a variety of small denominations.

Recorded mintage: 647,321 for 1738-39 for KM 87, plus an unknown number in gold.

Specification: KM 87: 0.81 g, 0.583 fine silver; KM 87a: 1.75 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 1.75 g.

Catalog reference: KM 87 (billon), KM 87a (gold), Delm-1066 (R2).
