Overijssel 1741 duit
The first specimen was lot 24309 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $110. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. Overyssel. Duit, 1741. PCGS MS-63 Brown Gold Shield. Quite robust and choice, with some appealing mint red remaining in the protected areas." The second specimen was lot 31707 in Heritage sale 3107 (Chicago, May 2023), where it sold for $5,520. The catalog description[2] noted, "Netherlands: Overyssel. Provincial gold Duit 1741 Clipped NGC, Kampen mint. Mintmark: Crane. A delightful one-year type featuring slightly softly struck crowned arms of Overyssel on the honeyed flan. From the Coenen Collection." Duits were struck in copper in Overijssel intermittently during the eighteenth century until the destruction of the United Provinces in 1794. This particular type was struck in copper, silver and gold 1741, 1750-53 and 1764-69. The copper ones circulated while the silver and gold specimens were souvenirs or presentation pieces.
