Overijssel 1766 duit
This specimen was lot 72526 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $132. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. Overijssel. Duit, 1766. NGC MS-65 Brown. Commemorating William V becoming stadtholder of the Netherlands, this glistening Gem presents great luster as well as some hints of cobalt and burgundy." The normally accurate auctioneers goofed on this one, attributing it to the commemorative type of KM 102, which shows the Stadtholder's bust. Instead, this is the regular type, struck in Overijssel 1741, 1750, 1753 and 1764-69 with a series of presentation strikes in silver and gold.
Recorded mintage: unknown but a common date.
Specification: 2.47 g, copper, 21.5 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM-102.
