Holland 1766 duit
This specimen was lot 24307 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $132. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. Holland. Duit, 1766. PCGS MS-63 Brown Gold Shield. Glistening and rather choice, this charming specimen features soft, satiny surfaces and great overall appeal." Duits were struck in copper in Holland throughout the eighteenth century until the destruction of the United Provinces in 1794. This particular type was struck in copper, silver and gold 1702, 1707-23, 1739-42, 1749, 1754, 1765-69, 1780. The copper ones circulated while the silver and gold specimens were souvenirs or presentation pieces.
