This specimen was lot 1483 in Stephen Album sale 38 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2020), where it sold for $1,309. The catalog description[1] noted, "OMAN: Qaboos bin Said, 1970-2020, AV rial, 1993/AH1413, Youth Year, mintage of 900 coins, NGC graded PF63 UC, R." This commemorative is accompanied by a silver rials (KM 135) and half rials. Oman, long a British protectorate, achieved full independence in 1971. Coinage began that year. She has watched enviously as her neighbors, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, harvest billions of dollars by selling oil, of which little occurs in Omani territory.
