This specimen was lot 2409 in Goldberg sale 91 (Los Angeles, June 2016), where it sold for $1,410. The catalog description[1] noted, "Oman. 20 Omani Rials, AH1411 (1990) NGC PF69 UC. 20th National Day. Sultan Sa'id. NGC graded Proof 69 Ultra Cameo." This commemorative is accompanied by a silver two rials (KM 81). Oman, long a British protectorate, achieved full independence in 1971. Coinage began that year. She has watched enviously as her neighbors, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, harvest billions of dollars by selling oil, of which little occurs in Omani territory.
