Sincona sale 83, lot 3330

This specimen was lot 3330 in Sincona sale 83 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 2,600 CHF (about US$3,480 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "OMAN, Quabus bin Sa'id, 1970-2020. 1 Omani Rial 1996, Proof. Heritage Year. Selten. Nur 1'000 Exemplare geprägt (Rare. Only 1,000 pieces struck). NGC PF68 ULTRA CAMEO." Oman, long a British protectorate, achieved full independence in 1971. Coinage began that year. This NCLT was issued in 1994, not 1996, and was accompanied by a half rial (KM 92).
