This specimen was lot 811 in Stephen Album internet sale 28 (Santa Rosa, CA, July 2024), where it sold for $540. The catalog description[1] noted, "OMAN: Qaboos bin Said, 1970-2020, AR 1/2 omani rial, 1994, 250th Anniversary of the Al Bu Sa'id Dynasty, mintage of only 500 pieces, Choice Proof, R, ex Dr. Wolfgang Schuster Collection." Qaboos died in 2020, aged 79 years, after a fifty year reign. He was succeeded by his first cousin, Haitham bin Tariq Al Said. A number of his NCLT's lack AH dates, including this one, surprising for a country so overwhelmingly Muslim.
Recorded mintage: 500.
Specification: 28.28 g, 0.925 fine silver, 38.7 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM-111.
