Jever and Oldenburg in 1786

This specimen was lot 11591 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €288 (about US$300). The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Oldenburg. 1/8 Taler, 1667. Jever Mint. Anton Günther. NGC AU Details--Cleaned. Struck on the death of Anton Günter in 1667. From the L. E. Bruun Collection. Ex. Leopold Welzl v. Wellenheim Collection (Vienna-1846) Lot # 4943." Anton Günther, count of Oldenburg 1603-67, was also lord of Jever, where this coin was struck. After his death, Jever passed to the dukes of Anhalt-Zerbst and Oldenburg to the kings of Denmark. This type was struck in 1667 along with a quarter, half and one thaler and a double ducat.
