Oldenburg 1667 1/4 thaler
This specimen was lot 4188 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €1,300 (about US$1,701 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"OLDENBURG, GRAFSCHAFT, SEIT 1774 HERZOGTUM, AB 1829 GROSSHERZOGTUM. Anton Günther, 1603-1667. 1/4 Taler 1667, Jever, auf den Tod des Grafen. 3. Münzperiode, Münzmeister David Ziegenhorn (1663-1671). R Hübsche Patina, fast vorzüglich. (Germany, county of Oldenburg, Anton Gunther, 1603-67, quarter thaler of 1667, Jever mint, on the death of the count, third period. Scarce, handsome patina, about extremely fine.)"
A rare commemorative along with a eighth, half and one thaler and a double ducat. Anton Günther, count of Oldenburg 1603-67, was also lord of Jever, where this coin was struck. After his death, Jever passed to the dukes of Anhalt-Zerbst and Oldenburg to the kings of Denmark.
