This specimen was lot 20274 in Stack's Bowers 2018 NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Nurnberg. Ducat, 1766-SR. NGC MS-63 PL. Obverse: peruked and armored bust of Joseph II; reverse: city arms with mural crown. A superior example with only a few hairlines holding it back from Gem status. Our first offering of this type, which appears occasionally in Europe but is seldom seen here in the U.S. Sharply struck and somewhat prooflike, highly lustrous and very attractive." Another rare issue from this once prosperous town.
