This specimen was lot 1074 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €400 (about US$539 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"NÜRNBERG, STADT, Konv.-Taler 1766, mit Titel Josefs II. Mit Laubrand. Feine Patina, vorzüglich. (Germany, city of Nuremberg, convention thaler of 1766, struck in the name of Joesph II, with leafed edge. Fine patina, extremely fine.)"
Two thalers are noted for 1766; this one, where eagle on the reverse has a crown, and Dav-2496, where one crown serves for both. Nuremberg was mediatized by Napoleon in 1806 and handed over to Bavaria.
