Künker sale 293, lot 2092

This specimen was lot 2092 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €1,800 (about US$2,426 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"NORWEGEN, KÖNIGREICH, Frederik III. 1648-1670. Mark (16 Skilling) 1659, Christiania. Sehr schön. Exemplar der Slg. Bernhard Terletzki. (kingdom of Norway, Frederick III, 1648-70, mark of 1659, Oslo mint. Very fine.)"

This type was struck 1648-61 and is comparatively common for an issue of seventeenth century Norway. Altho catalogued by the auctioneer as a one mark (one-sixth specie daler), we are calling it a 16 skilling as that is what is marked on the coin.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 5.57 g, 0.672 fine silver.

Catalog reference: Ahlström 176 B, KM 32.1.
