Sincona sale 6, lot 1898

This specimen was lot 1898 in Sincona sale 6 (Zürich, May 2012), where it sold for 4,500 CHF (about US$5,537 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"NORWEGEN Friedrich III. 1648-1670. Speciesdaler 1659. Geharnischtes, gekröntes Brustbild nach rechts. Rv. Löwe mit Streitaxt im Lorbeerkranz. Sehr schön-gutes sehr schön. (Norway, Frederick III, 1648-70, specie daler of 1659. Obverse: armored, crowned bust to right; reverse: lion with long handled ax in laurel wreath, very fine.)"

This type, listed for 1659-62, is rare.
