Norway 1658 specie daler Dav-3603
This specimen was lot 1200 in Stack's Bowers sale of the L. E. Bruun Collection (Copenhagen, September 2024), where it sold for €20,400 (about US$22,607 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"One of the Finest Known 1658 Speciedalers, NORWAY. Speciedaler, 1658. Christiania Mint. Frederik III. NGC AU-58. Mintmaster: Frederik Grüner. Engraved by Matthias Först (?) and Johan Blum. VERY RARE and with brilliance throughout and only light traces of handling on the obverse, this coin is among the best of the examples in private hands. Ex: Johan G. Guildal Collection (Private Sale - 1918); later published by the Danish Numismatic Society as item 1341 in his collection."
This is a rare one year variety without mintmaster's initials. The regular type (KM A42) was struck 1657-58.
