This specimen was lot 31256 in Heritage sale 3037 (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $11,162.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Christian IV Speciedaler 1646-PG AU55 NGC. Sheathed in rich, earthy patina, this specimen presents extremely pleasing features that are immediate and undeniable. The strike varies between incredibly bold and somewhat soft, with the facial features of the King having exactness and the lion's face having almost no definition at all. However, between the broad size of this piece as well as its age, the overall appearance of this offering is remarkable. A nicely preserved offering that is sure to command much attention." This daler was struck for Norway by Christian IV, king of Denmark 1588-1648. Despite a steady issue for 1629-48, this type is rare.

Recorded mintage: 55,000.

Specification: 29.23 g, 0.882 fine silver, .828 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM-12; S-16.4; H-5B; Dav-3534.
