This specimen was lot 23375 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $288. The catalog description[1] noted, "NEW ZEALAND. Shilling, 1946. PCGS MS-66 Gold Shield. An absolutely sublime Gem, this magnificent piece--the finest graded in the PCGS census--offers tremendous radiance and luster along with a speckled russet nature throughout. From the Fenton Collection." This shilling struck for George VI retained the Maori warrior reverse introduced with George V. This type was struck 1937-46 tho none were made 1938-39. In 1948, the obverse was revised from "GEORGE VI KING EMPEROR" to "KING GEORGE THE SIXTH." The denomination was terminated upon decimalization in 1965.

Recorded mintage: 1,060,000 plus proofs, the most common date.

Specification: 5.65 g, 0.500 fine silver, 23.62 mm diameter.
