This type was struck 1937-46 for Great Britain after which the denomination was converted to copper-nickel. It was demonetized in 1990, long after the pound was decimalized, but by then rising silver prices had driven it out of circulation.

Recorded mintage: 18,663,700 plus proofs.

Specifications: 5.66 g, 0.500 fine silver, 23.5 mm diameter, reeded edge.
