Great Britain 1947 shilling KM-864
This specimen was lot 51109 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $2,640. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Shilling, 1947. London Mint. George VI. PCGS PROOF-66 Deep Cameo. Scottish reverse. The only example of the type seen at PCGS with the 'deep cameo' designation, this tantalizing Gem radiates with a delightful champagne hue to the color and tremendous contrast between fields and devices." This type was struck 1947-48. It was the first copper-nickel shilling but still had the reverse legend "FID:DEF IND:IMP". Another shilling, KM 863, was struck with the English crest on the reverse.
Recorded mintage: 12,283,000 plus a few proofs.
