Great Britain 1949 shilling KM-876
This specimen was lot 51110 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $1,560. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Shilling, 1949. London Mint. George VI. PCGS PROOF-65 Cameo. English reverse. Tied with just one other example as the only specimens in the PCGS census with the 'cameo' designation, this enthralling Gem provides a glistening, robust appearance, with just a hint of some deeper toning in spots." This type was struck 1949-51. It was the second copper-nickel shilling and dropped "IND:IMP" from the reverse legend. Another shilling, KM 877, was struck with the Scottish crest on the reverse.
Recorded mintage: 19,328,000 plus a few proofs.
