This specimen was lot 51117 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $1,260. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Farthing, 1949. London Mint. George VI. PCGS PROOF-65 Red Brown. Surpassed in the PCGS census by a single red specimen in proof, this exceptional copper fractional nevertheless offers dazzling and enchanting eye appeal." This type was struck 1949-52. It was the second farthing for George VI and dropped "IND:IMP" from the obverse legend. It is common tho the proofs are rare. The farthing was terminated in 1956.
Recorded mintage: 8,424,000 plus a few proofs.
