This specimen was lot 33533 in Heritage sale 3098 (New York, January 2022), where it sold for $2,760. The catalog description[1] noted, "Cyprus: British Colony. George VI Shilling 1947 PR65 Cameo PCGS. One of five examples witnessed by either grading service, bearing an elusive Proof quality and graced by champagne haze." This denomination, expressed as nine piastres until 1940, was converted from sterling silver to copper-nickel for the issues of 1947 (KM 27) and 1949 (KM 31). This marks the end of the sterling coinage; the issues of queen Elizabeth (1955-57) are decimal.
