This specimen was lot 24415 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it sold for $1,175. The catalog description[1] noted, "George VI Proof Sixpence 1947, PR65 Cameo PCGS, truly exceptional, with pinkish gold toning on the copper-nickel surfaces. Rarely found, and this is surely among the finest of the few proofs made this year." This type was issued in large numbers 1947-48 but the proofs are rare. Sixpences minted 1937-46 were 0.500 fine silver, sixpences of 1949-52 dropped the "IND IMP" from the king's titles.

Recorded mintage: 29,983,000 plus proofs.
