This specimen was lot 24416 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it sold for $1,175. The catalog description[1] noted, "George VI Proof Sixpence 1948, PR66 Cameo PCGS, a beauty having bright silvery mirrored fields. Very rare in this elite state of preservation. Only two dates fall within this style of design struck in copper-nickel." This type was issued in large numbers 1947-48 but the proofs are rare. Sixpences minted 1937-46 were 0.500 fine silver, sixpences of 1949-52 dropped the "IND IMP" from the king's titles.

Recorded mintage: 88,324,000 plus proofs (highest mintage sixpence prior to 1954).
