from the Stack's Bowers 2020 NYINC sale, lot 23348

This specimen was lot 23348 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $85. The catalog description[1] noted, "NEW ZEALAND. 1/2 Crown, 1946. PCGS MS-63 Gold Shield. Brilliant steel gray surfaces highlight this rather charming, choice specimen. From the Fenton Collection." This half crown struck for George VI retained the arms reverse introduced with George V. This type was struck 1937-46 tho none were made 1938-39. In 1948, the obverse was revised from "GEORGE VI KING EMPEROR" to "KING GEORGE THE SIXTH." The denomination was terminated upon decimalization in 1965.

Recorded mintage: 960,000 plus proofs, a common date.

Specification: 14.14 g, 0.500 fine silver, 32 mm diameter.
