New Zealand 1945 shilling
This specimen was lot 23374 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "NEW ZEALAND. Shilling, 1945. PCGS MS-65 Gold Shield. A bright Gem with cartwheel luster and incipient toning, this resounding example is exceeded in the PCGS census by just one specimen. From the Fenton Collection." This shilling struck for George VI retained the Maori warrior reverse introduced with George V. This type was struck 1937-46 tho none were made 1938-39. In 1948, the obverse was revised from "GEORGE VI KING EMPEROR" to "KING GEORGE THE SIXTH." The denomination was terminated upon decimalization in 1965.
