This specimen was lot 23373 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $90. The catalog description[1] noted, "NEW ZEALAND. Shilling, 1944. PCGS MS-64+ Gold Shield. A stunning and resounding Near Gem, this brilliantly lustrous example offers intense radiance and charm. Tied with just one other specimen for the finest graded in the PCGS census. From the Fenton Collection." This shilling struck for George VI retained the Maori warrior reverse introduced with George V. This type was struck 1937-46 tho none were made 1938-39. In 1948, the obverse was revised from "GEORGE VI KING EMPEROR" to "KING GEORGE THE SIXTH." The denomination was terminated upon decimalization in 1965.

Recorded mintage: 480,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 5.65 g, 0.500 fine silver, 23.62 mm diameter.
