This type was struck at the Melbourne mint 1938-44 with help from the San Francisco and Denver mints 1942-44. Australia maintained the sterling silver standard until 1945, years after Great Britain had debased her coins to 0.500 fine.

Recorded mintage: 8,000,000 from San Francisco (shown here) plus 14,576,000 at Melbourne.

Specification: 5.65 g, 0.925 fine silver, 24 mm diameter.
