New Zealand 1945 florin
This specimen was lot 23361 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $156. The catalog description[1] noted, "NEW ZEALAND. Florin, 1945. PCGS MS-65 Gold Shield. Tied with just two other pieces for the finest in the PCGS census, this flashy and lustrous florin exhibits tremendous brilliance highlighted by a light dusting of russet toning. From the Fenton Collection." This florin struck for George VI retained the kiwi reverse introduced with George V. This type was struck 1937-46 tho none were made 1938-39. In 1948, the obverse was revised from "GEORGE VI KING EMPEROR" to "KING GEORGE THE SIXTH." The denomination was terminated upon decimalization in 1965.
